Wow, what a gem of a find – Stephen Foster State Park delivers! A beautiful short hike around the local marshes but the kayak trip was beyond amazing. Don’t have your own kayak? No worries, you can rent canoes and boats. They also have a daily boat tour as well.
We were here for a total of 4 days which averaged out to $40 per night (with online processing fees). The sites all have electric and water available and the bathrooms were nicely maintained. We were also happy to find laundry facilities there for $1.50 per wash or dry which helped us start fresh when leaving the campground.
We learned that we didn’t see a lot of the larger alligators since they were “brumating” which is kind of like hibernation for cold-blooded animals. Their heart rate slows and their reflexes are slower until the temperatures are warmer. Guess that might be why that bird got away so easily! 🙂
We are still working the kinks out of our kayaks right now. I have the Intex K1 single kayak and Gary has the Intex Excursion Pro Kayak. The idea was for Gary to have the larger kayak so we could put additional fishing gear, food, etc. while keeping mine more lightweight. The Excursion Pro is definitely more robustly made and is made from a stronger material than the K1.
They both track a little off but so far it hasn’t really been an issue since we’re only taking these out on calm water. I will be looking for a different seat to replace the inflatable one on the K1 – it’s just not as comfortable as I would like. Luckily it looks like I could get a seat similar to what I had on our older rigid kayaks with the eyelet locations on the kayak.
We also need to work a little more at getting some better locations for our cameras while kayaking. Hopefully that will improve as we get more comfortable with them.
