In this week’s episode, I think we hit all the full-time RV travel situations: something breaks, we find another beautiful spot in the National Forest, the weather forces us to change directions AND we find a gem of a place to visit. Yep, I think that’s about right.
Where We Stayed⛺🗺️📌
With the sunsetting of the Campendium app, I’m not including the Roadtrippers link (which will *allegedly* have all of the reviews from Campendium). Just not as easy to use for a campground search app
Tahoe Valley Campground (South Lake Tahoe, CA) – Thousand Trails (Roadtrippers) (iOverlander)
We can stay here for free with our Thousand Trails membership. This is a pretty nice campground. There’s a well-stocked camp store and the area is beautiful. You’re also close to all the shopping and restaurants as well as places to rent boats or skis. We were only here for a few days, but would definitely stay again.
Goumaz Campground (Susanville, CA) – (Roadtrippers) (iOverlander)
Absolutely gorgeous and free! You should stay overnight if you can. They’re also right next to the 25.4 mile Bizz Johnson bike trail.
Indian Well Campground (Tulelake, CA) – (Roadtrippers) (iOverlander)
NPS campground $10/night. Trash and water in season (not when we visited). Great place to see all of the caves at the Lava Beds National Monument.
Where We Explored🚶🏻👀
Lava Beds National Monument (Tulelake, CA) – (Roadtrippers) (Google)
I can’t believe we stumbled upon this place. We could have easily stayed a few more days exploring more caves. Make sure to have your America the Beautiful pass and get your 10-day permit for the area. Well worth the stop!
Where We Ate 🍽️🍔🌯
- Courthouse Cafe (Susanville, CA) – (Google)
