In this video, we share our experiences at the 2023 Truck Camper Adventure Rally and then continue our journey north to the Valley of Fire in Nevada.
WHERE WE STAYED🛻⛺:
Roadrunner 14-day BLM Land

- This is where the Truck Camper Adventure Rally was held. While it was perfect for the rally with that many rigs, I’d still recommend to go to the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge south of this area.
Dry Lake bed (south of Las Vegas, NV)

- We originally tried to stop here but I just wasn’t getting a great vibe. Nothing specific (though the guy twirling a pole on fire may have had a little to do with it). We were getting there at dusk and there were large potholes to deal with and we were right on top of the highway. We decided to chance it and drive a little further south even though we were at twilight.
Gravel Parking off Nelson Road (south of Las Vegas, NV)

- This was a better choice than the Dry Lake Bed above. Few cars traveled the road and you had a great view of a portion of the city
- As we’ve seen, there was a lot of garbage in the area. We picked up a bag to try and make the area just a little better than when we got there.
BLM outside of Valley of Fire State Park (Overton, NV)

- We stayed at this campsite for 3 nights. We ended up getting caught in a rain turning to snow showers when we were here. We ended up staying an extra night to make sure we could do some of the trails at Valley of Fire.
- This campsite was about 30 minutes from the trails we wanted to go on in the park. It was more protected from heavier winds and there was a small firepit (which we didn’t use).
- This was better option for us instead of staying at the state park – this was free and we had a lot more space than the sites in the campground
WHERE WE PLAYED:🐟🛶🚴♀️🥾
Valley of Fire State Park (Overton, NV)
We decided to combine three great trails into one. Now that sounds a lot, but it really was only a little over 3 miles and around 400 feet elevation gain.
And what you see in that time is JAM PACKED – you get these beautiful pink/coral swirly goodness in the waves section.
There was a section where we ran into bighorn sheep frolicking near some of the water pools. We must have stayed there for 20 minutes just watching them all!
And, we were able to experience our first slot canyon here!
WHERE WE ATE: 🍽️🥩🍹🍺🍽️
We actually ate somewhere other than our camper!
Wagon Wheel Restaurant (Needles, CA)

- Stopped there for lunch and glad we did! The wait staff was attentive – our drinks were never low and the food was good. They were even nice enough to split our meal onto two plates (we usually share a meal when we go out). The decor was fun as well. The place was pretty busy when we went, but you got your food pretty quickly. Just what you want for lunch.
