In this episode, we’re visiting Goblin Valley State Park in Utah. We were able to head onto two great hikes there along with some AMAZING BLM areas just outside of the park. We run into some weather troubles then head just outside of Capitol Reef for one TIGHT slot canyon!
โบ๐บ๏ธ๐Our Camping Locations
We’re sharing our camping and other locations on two sites:
โ iOverlander – We post mainly boondocking sites as well as dump stations, water, laundry etc. . This app can be used without cellular signal!
โ Campendium – We post mainly established campgrounds. This app has cellular signal overlays on the paid version (when you have a cell signal)
We also have a currently free map on Google that has all of the places where we’ve stayed along with the related video and links to more detailed reviews on iOverlander , Campendium and Google Maps.
Notom-Bullfrog BLM (iOverlander)
I didn’t get a good picture of this area, but it’s close to a stream. There are spots closer to the road, but we stayed in one tucked more into the back. Multiple options for camping here.
๐ถ๐ป๐ฅพ๐ถ๐ปโโ๏ธOur Hiking Trails
Goblin and Goblette’s Lair with Carmel Canyon- Goblin Valley State Park (AllTrails)
We combined 2 trails into one and made it a winner – we combined the Goblin (and Goblette’s) Lair and then took the alternate route back through the Carmel Canyon. There is some climbing along this path but was worth it, in our opinion!
Burro Wash Trail (AllTrails)
So glad we went on this trail. We were able to get around the first water pool by taking a detour over the section. Watch for cairns. A little tricky going down with a lot of loose rock.
The slot canyon portion was beautiful and got REALLY tight. I got stuck once with my backpack. Getting around others is *interesting*. We couldn’t get around the 2nd water crossing (didn’t bring water shoes and didn’t want to get our feet wet). There was also a boulder in that part of the canyon that would have made things more challenging (guessing some stemming would be required).
While we didn’t make it to the end, what we saw was definitely worth it. The beginning of the trail is just on sand – watch for cairns to make the trip shorter (we didn’t realize that until the way back).

We’re keeping track of all the places we’ve stayed and started adding our hikes and other interesting places along the way!
