After being in the southwest for the past 5 months and hitting several wind storms, we decided we add switches in the camper to pull in the slides WHEN WE’RE INSIDE. When you’re hitting gusts of over 50mph, having this option makes your day/night a little less hair-raising.
We’ve now used this probably 3-4 times since we installed these back in February 2023. We did have some challenges getting the RIGHT switch, so we recommend using the one we suggest (or else do a ton of returns like we did!)
Stuff We Bought: 💵
Bluetooth Remote Switches – While we did not purchase this system, this is an alternative to the switches we put in. This would allow you to use your existing switches but then also control your slides via a phone app. Go to the manufacturer’s website to get wiring details.
Slide Switches – We found out the hard way that you do need to get specific switches to use for your slides. They have a brake option that is not well described anywhere. You also end up wiring these similar to 3-way switches in your house.
Switch Wiring
As always, use common sense. If you’re not comfortable with electricity, have a certified RV tech do this for you. Or find someone who is a bit more comfortable. As Gary had mentioned in the video, the slide breakers on this rigs are there to protect the motor leads and not the battery wires. That means that there are HOT wires. The OEM disconnect will not power these off – you will have to remove power from your batteries (which varies based upon what system you purchase). Proceed cautiously. And don’t blame me if you let the smoke out!
