In this week’s RV travel vlog, we had some waiting to do before we head in to get our camper worked on. So, we decided to explore central Oregon and stayed at Jasper Point Campground on the Prineville Reservoir. It was a great campground and we got to get back on the water! But, I don’t think we were fully prepared…
Our Camping Locations⛺🗺️📌
We’re sharing our camping and other locations on iOverlander (boondocking, etc.) and Campendium (established campsites).
✅Jasper Point (iOverlander, Campendium)
Great little campground with some sites right on the water. It’s first-come, first-serve campground. More expensive for out-of-state folk ($43!) but we were able to snag a site that had water access (got there on a Wed before Memorial Day weekend). All sites have water & electric. Showers are $2.
Campground is clean and the camphosts were friendly. Sites are not too level (the ones further from the water seem to have more of an incline so be prepared).
Boat ramp is well-used. Would recommend to launch kayaks near the extra boat parking in the campground near the water. There’s a few trails to bring your kayak down and launch (between the white posts).
Even if you don’t stay, it’s worth the drive to the campground – switchbacks and beautiful views of the reservoir from high above.

Our Hiking Trails🚶🏻🥾🚶🏻♂️
✅Jasper Point to Prineville Rec Area
The trailhead is on the other side of Jasper Point campground. I’m not sure why this one isn’t on AllTrails, but its a nice walk in between the campgrounds. You get some really great views of the Prineville Reservoir from above. Be aware there is little shade, so bring appropriate amounts of water. When you get to the Prineville. When you get to the state park, take some time watching the boats at the boat launch (that’s where we had our lunch).
✅LOOONG Kayak trip to a really cool rock formation
Not sure if I would recommend this. I think if we did this in a full day, it would have been better. You can stop at the other Prinveville campground for a bathroom break and to stretch your legs (which I would recommend). Bring lots of water (I sound like a broken record!). The rock formation was really cool, though.
