Want to see what a working coal mine used to look like? Beckley, WV has you covered. They have an underground coal mine tour and multiple buildings that were moved to recreate a typical coal mine village. And they have a campground right next to it. Check it out! We also make it to NC to begin working on selling items we no longer need & getting our truck buffed out after our Western desert excursions.
Where We Stayed⛺🗺️📌
Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine Campground (Beckley, WV) – (Campendium)
You need to have a fully-contained RV for this park (no bathroom or shower facilities), but they have full hookups. Some folks have had issues with the hill getting up there, but we didn’t have a problem (it does go up in a curve which may be fun for longer RVs). That being said, we saw 5th wheels and Class A rigs up there when we stayed the night.
Make sure you have leveling blocks, some sites are pretty unlevel. But for one day, we didn’t worry about it much. There’s some longer trails right out of the campground too, which was nice to stretch our legs. Unfortunately, we forgot to get pictures of the area.
Oh, and one other weird thing. Their online booking books from 12am -12am, so it’s really confusing on how you should book (if I’m coming in at 5pm on a Thursday night, do you book all of Thursday or all of Friday….). We ended up giving up and just got a site when we drove up to the exhibition museum. But, we were on a weekday, so it was easier to get a spot.
