Well, if you do it once, you can do it again, right? We liked the result of installing this Hepvo valve in the bathroom so much that we decided to tackle the kitchen sink. Gary also discovered what we believe is the perpetual reason for our periodic odors from the large sink side. Hope this helps you!
HepvO put out a technical design guide that also may help you, along with our video above.
This is what our old drain plumbing looked like. It may not be completely obvious but both sink pipes were actually angled downward. This meant that when i drained water in the sink, the water had to go uphill to get to the gray tank – not a good idea, and likely why we were getting periodic “aromas” especially in the larger (left) sink.
We are FAR from being experts in plumbing, and there’s probably a MUCH better way to do this. But based upon the parts we could get our hands on, we got it to work. The biggest challenge was to figure out what additional plumbing parts we would need. Our challenge was how to connect the HepvO valve to this corrugated tube.
We needed a 90-degree elbow that had inside threads AND we needed to have the same inside threads to connect to the HepvO valve. When you’re in the middle of the UP, it’s not as simple – no big box stores around. Luckily, we found a local hardware store that had this part, woo hoo!
Items we mentioned in the video:
Note that all of the links (minus the HepvO valve) are from Ace hardware, since that’s where we ended up getting our parts that day. There are similar parts on Amazon but they’re so much more expensive I didn’t want to place links here. Go to your local hardware store to get these parts and save some cash.
HepvO Valve – This is an 1 1/2″ version. I see on Amazon that there’s a 1 1/4″ version but I think that may have some different adapters. Couldn’t find enough to figure it out.
Elbow Connection – needed this to connect the HepvO valve to the existing corrugated tube. That tubing had a gray threaded connection which meant you needed to have a 90 degree elbow with 2 threaded ends. This may be your biggest challenge is to find this piece.
Did it work?
The best way to know is to watch our video, but, YES. We installed this one about 2 weeks after we installed the HepvO valve in the bathroom. It’s been about several more weeks, and it seems *SO* much better. We previously were also getting a ton of moisture when we kept the sink cover on (after cleaning and drying this sink out thoroughly). That moisture has diminished dramatically as well – yay!
But… if anything changes, I’ll let you know!
