In this episode we travel from just north of the Mackinac Bridge in UP Michigan down to central Illinois as fall shows it’s true beautiful colors! Come on over and join the ride down with us!
WHERE WE STAYEDπ»βΊ:
Cabela’s (Grandville, MI)
While it was a bit noisy on our video at that time (rush hour-ish), this is actually a fairly decent place to stay overnight. We’ve stayed there before without issue. And even though we’ve been here, we still do ask permission. Though definitely not free – we ended up with another fishing pole, ha!
Waffle Farms Campground (Coldwater, MI)
We’ve been here MANY times and have a longer video of their Halloween bash a few years ago. This campground has transient sites but definitely caters more to the seasonal folks. But they do a great job for holidays, and go ALL OUT during Halloween, which is our favorite. And I mean go all out – they even have a haunted house for those staying at the campground!
Moraine View State Park (Leroy, IL) –
It’s sad to say that I lived in Illinois for 20-something years and never enjoyed this park that wasn’t even an HOUR away!
Honestly, this fall was just downright amazing. The park itself is pretty small but it was worth coming for the fall colors (though I will never admit I’m a leaf-peeper).
They have a 4-mile road around the lake to either drive or walk so very accessible. And some pretty fantastic views just steps from your car.
While it was fall weather and not every moment was fully sunny, it was still breathtaking we thought!
WHERE WE ATE: π½οΈπ₯©πΉπΊπ½οΈ
Fatbelly Deli & Creamery (Stanwood, MI)
As typical of me, I didn’t plan far enough ahead and make a lunch to take on our trip. I got used to only having a few hours before stops and started getting a bit hangry. So glad we stumbled on this place!
They have some very unique takes on lunch sandwiches! We ended up with the brisket cuban sandwich which was perfect and oh, those chips were so delicious – kettle cooked but slightly thicker than typical with a nice salt and pepper seasoning. Nothing over the top but everything well-made.
