If you’re like me, you head back and forth from the house to your RV approximately 2,357,283 times before leaving for a trip.  And, many times I forget that I locked the rig the night before, or locked it up so I could run to the store to get more junk I don’t need. 

It would be GREAT to have keypad options to get into my RV, like I have for my house.  So, in comes our next upgrade from RV Upgrades!

When I found this option, I thought YAY!  This should be GREAT!  I ordered it, and it came in quickly.  We went to install it and…. I bought the wrong one!

In my haste to get something on the RV, I neglected one key element (yes, pun intended) – there are right and left versions!  So, off I go to get the RIGHT hand version of this keyless lock, and go through the process to return the part. 

Although returns are not as easy as Amazon, they are pretty straight-forward.  I had to send a request for the retun as typical.  It took a bit longer to get the email response with the RMA number, and I did have to ship it back on my own dime (instead of them taking it out of the original cost).  For me that was easier – I went to our local post office (since we don’t have a UPS near us).  

We received the correct one the day before our trip to Lake Shelbyville, so we decided to take it along with us.

Installation was pretty simple – just make sure to follow the order of installation in the directions.  We didn’t and had to start again.  Even with all of that, it took perhaps 10-15 minutes and with minimal effort. 

Programming the door with our pin wasn’t bad, but when I entered it in wrong (a theme here, I think!), I couldn’t figure out how to allow it to enter a new one.  After some reading on other websites, I quickly realized you have to remove the batteries and wait for a short period of time for the lock to reset to the default factory settings.  In case you lost yours, the default factory setting is 3-7-1-5.  This is ok to give out, since you wouldn’t be able to remove the batteries unless the door is unlocked.   Once you enter the default settings, it allows you to create your new code. 

All in all, a fairly simple installation and definitely easier to get in and out of the camper quickly (when you forgot the keys in the truck or in the house).  We’ve been using it here for the last few weeks without any issues.

One thing I wish this unit has was the ability to automatically lock after a certain amount of time.  A lot of the house locks have this feature, and I admit I’ve forgotten to lock the rig (and get “the look” from my other half).  The other minor nuisance I’ve seen as of late is that when I’m going in and out of the rig quickly, the locking lever will sometimes become misaligned.  So, when I’m trying to leave quickly I nearly slam into the door.  This can easily be remedied by 1) me going slower, or 2) looking at the red dots before trying to open the door.  Yeah, I know… but…
